Mission Statement

To support the Encinitas Library as it strives to encourage literacy,
lifelong learning, and the love of reading throughout our diverse community.
To enhance the library's resources, increase the community's access to
information and knowledge, and provide for a vibrant cultural gathering place.

The Encinitas Library has been operating on the current site since 1959, with the Friends of the Library starting at the
suggestion of Elena Countryman in 1980. The award winning new library building opened in February 2008.

The Friends annually participate in a matching funds program with the San Diego County Library to provideadditional
funds for the library to purchase new books and other materials such as CD’s, DVD’s, magazines and newspapers.

Funds increase the Encinitas Library program budget and also support the Friends
ongoing 1st Sunday music and 3rd Wednesday author presentations.
