Join the Friends of the
Encinitas Library and enhance the quality of reading, culture and
educational opportunities for our entire community.
The Friends…..
--Spearheaded the drive for
over 15 years to get a bigger, better Encinitas Library.
--Before the opening of the
new Library in February 2008, donated over $92,000, which when matched by the
San Diego County Library system brought in $184,000 in funds for books,
magazines, newspapers, CD’s, DVD’s and audiobooks.
--In 2008, donated $45,000,
which was again matched by the San Diego County Library system, for a total of
$90,000 for Library materials.
--Established the Friends of
the Encinitas Library Endowment, with the goal of accruing $100,000 by 2014.
--Has donated $10,000
annually for additional free programs for children and adults.
--Donated $5,000 for Reader’s
Express books, which was matched by an Encinitas city grant.
--Through a targeted
donation, gave $2,000 for Viewer’s Express DVD’s.
--Set up and operates the
Friends Bookstore six days a week, which provides inexpensive books, CD’s,
DVD’s and audiobooks to the reading public.
--Sponsors and organizes the
1st Sunday Concert series and the 3rd Wednesday Lectures
series.
--Funded an increase for
books in Spanish.
--Through a targeted
donation, purchased furniture and a shade sail for the Children’s Patio.
--Co-sponsored Captain Book’s
visit and a book give-away for more than 150 children.
--Secured National
Endowment for the Arts grants, then created and managed local Big Reads celebrations.
