The Friends of the Library Bookstore is managed and staffed by Friends volunteers and we are eager to expand our volunteer ranks. Volunteers work 10am-1pm or 1pm-4pm at least twice a month. Duties include sorting and pricing donated books, shelving books and selling books. The Friends of the Library Events Committee schedules a 1st Sunday Music Performance and a 3rd Wednesday Author/Lecture Series. These events require setting up and taking down the chairs, staffing an information table, and passing out tickets. VOLUNTEER IN THE LIBRARY

You may be wondering how the current budget crisis in California is going to affect our own library. According to our Librarian, Sandy Housley, there will be drastic cuts in the substitute personnel budget and in the books and materials budget. Here are some ways that you can assist the library with volunteer help. If you feel interested in any of these, please email Haley at the library at hae.jung.Kyon@sdcounty.ca.gov.


 
1. Coordinate and execute Computer classes in the Lab beginning any time after September1. Various subject areas, teachers, class outlines, etc.

2. Coordinate a Grandparents & Books type one-on-one reading program. Recruit, schedule and manage the volunteers.

3. Coordinate a Story Time Helpers program. Schedule helpers for the library’s regular story times to help the librarian set up, supervise during programs, and help put away materials.

4. Coordinate a series of Open Mic programs for local poets, writers, etc. to come and read their works or the works of others. Plan, recruit, publicize, set up, MC, etc.

5. Coordinate and execute video gaming programs for kids and teens. Plan, publicize, set up, supervise, etc.

6. Coordinate and execute regular movie program for adults. Plan (including movie choice), set up, supervise, take down.

7. Independent shelve only volunteers are needed to come in for two or three hours at a time, as often as desired, to shelve books for the library.
 
 
These are tangible ways to provide some Library Assist to our favorite public building in Encinitas!
