OUR LIBRARY NEEDS AN
AUTOMATED SORTING MACHINE!

Last year nearly 750,000 items were checked out of our library.
Patrons easily check out their own items now, but each must
be checked in by hand by our library staff members.

  • A skilled person can sort between 350 – 400 items per hour. The machine sorts 1500 items an hour.
  • Encinitas has an average of 66,000 checked in items per month. It would take staff 189 hours – nearly 24 full days! - to check in these items, while the sorter could do it in just over 5.5 days.
  • An Automated Handling/Sorter will free staff for other important library tasks, including teaching classes, organizing library events and assisting patrons.
  • The machine will be like adding an additional 1.5 staff members daily to the Library!
Purchase of the machine, installation and testing will be a one-time fee of $125,053.75.
Maintenance, SIP license and Network connections are all ongoing costs which the
San Diego County Library has committed to covering.

Please consider making a donation today to help our library meet the needs of our community!
