CELEBRATING 45 YEARS OF THE FRIENDS OF ENCINITAS LIBRARY!
The Friends invest over $135,000 every year directly into our community through library programs, collections, and spaces. Their support keeps our library vibrant, relevant, and welcoming.
They fund key parts of our collection (magazines, newspapers, and books for our Adult and Middle Grade book clubs) helping us stay responsive to community interests.
Our programming is strong, averaging 40 programs and 900 attendees every month. Everything from crafting and technology classes to cultural and educational events is made possible because the Friends fund most of our adult and cultural programs. This includes book clubs, Spanish conversation groups, adaptive arts, author talks, technology help, and more.
The Friends have also made long‑term investments. In 2013, they contributed $30,000 toward our Automated Materials Handling system, which dramatically increased efficiency and allowed staff to focus more on patrons and programming.
They also enhance our children’s learning environments, funding early‑literacy computers, educational toys, shelving, and ADA‑compliant furniture that make these spaces warm and accessible. More new pieces arrive at the end of April to keep the room fresh and welcoming.

One Member’s Story
“For many years I have been reserving books on the Library’s website, then picking them up at the Encinitas branch when they become available. One day I noticed an iPhone for Seniors flyer as I was running in, and decided to attend. The class was extremely helpful and I continue to attend the series and become more confident with technology. At my first class I learned that the class is provided for free through the generous support of the Friends of the Encinitas Library.
As a patron of the Encinitas Library for over 40 years, I felt compelled to join the Friends as a lifetime member. I then went on one of the wonderful library tours for members, and have now signed up to volunteer at the Bookstore. I am looking forward to meeting other supporters and becoming a part of this giving community.”
